Flat Panel Display Applications: Trends & Forecasts 2008, is a comprehensive, global study on FPD applications. (See table of contents below) The study offers a detailed analysis of markets and analyzes each by device and product category including:

  • Market size and trends by device type
  • Analysis of demand by application
  • Analysis of production trends and growth by application
  • Growth rates by product line
  • Competitive situation by size
  • Market distribution by product category
  • Shipment volume, and so on

Sample information from the report includes:

  • Major events in the LCD industry included investment in 10th-generation lines by Sharp and Samsung (SSE) (details not disclosed), as well as production adjustments and price hikes for panels for PC monitors and 32-inch TVs from 2007/Q1 to Q2/2007.
  • Looking at CAGR toward 2012, while the 50-inch segment is now the largest at 32.6%, followed by 15.6% for the 60-inch segment and 12.1% for the 40-inch segment, the 16- to 19-inch and 0- to 3-inch segments are forecast to shrink. The 16- to 19-inch segment is currently the primary size in PC monitors. However, since PC monitor sizes will increase to 20 inches or larger in the future and unit prices will continue falling, the market value is expected to shrink. Meanwhile, the demise of the 0- to 3-inch segment is due to plummeting unit prices and the slower growth of the primary application, i.e., cellphones.
  • In the PDP industry, the operation start of the Phase 2 line of Matsushita Electric Industrial’s Amagasaki No. 3 Plant, the conversion of Samsung SDI’s Line No. 3 to six panels per substrate, and the operation start of LG Electronics’ A3-2 line all occurred as scheduled. In contrast, there were delays in the operation start of the Phase 1 line of Matsushita Electric Industrial’s Amagasaki No. 4 Plant, Samsung SDI’s No. 4 line, and the Phase 2 line of FHP’s No. 3 Building, as well as in the conversion of LG Electronics’ A3-1 line to eight panels per substrate, and the construction of Pioneer’s No. 7 line has been postponed. However, Matsushita Electric Industrial’s Amagasaki No. 5 Plant, Samsung SDI’s No. 5 line, and LG Electronics’ A4 line are all planning further production increases in the future.
