Flat Panel Display Materials: Trends & Forecasts 2008 is a comprehensive, global report on FPD's and related parts, materials, and screen sizes. (See table of contents below.) The study offers a detailed analysis of a wide array manufacturing technologies and analyzes each by:

  • Trends and forecasts by market size/device
  • Trends and forecasts by screen size
  • Production and market strategies by manufacturer
  • Trends in LCD TV components
  • Current issues facing LED backlight technology
  • Analysis of potential market, and more.

Sample information from the report includes:

  • Predictions for 2012 are 11 trillion yen for LCDs; 1.36 trillion yen for PDPs; 600 billion yen for others; for a total of 13 trillion yen. The CAGR (compound annual growth rate) for 2006 to 2012 is expected at 3.8%.
  • FE Technology has announced the mass production of new FED displays for 2009. SED is now wholly owned by NEC, and is in the process of re-organizing its operations, as of 2007/Q2.
  • Electronic paper shows the highest rate of growth, followed in order by OLED (organic EL), color PDP, inorganic EL, and LCD. LCDs and color PDPs were predicted at 4.6% and 7.6% growth respectively, with CPT shrinking by 26.4%. Growth of 4% is expected for electronic displays overall.
  • LCDs: TVs and PC monitors are expected to maintain 60% of the market.
  • PDPs: Shift in demand from the 30- to 40-inch class to the 50-inch class is expected to continue, with a rapid transition to HD in 2008.
  • OLEDs: The trend for PM-OLEDs will be utilization in portable audio devices and cellphone sub- and main displays, while AM-OLEDs will most likely appear in cellphone main displays, mp4, digital still cameras (DSCs), and TVs.
  • CPTs: will contract to 109.3 billion yen by 2012 (84% decrease from 2006), as will CDTs. No display types that are expected to grow into the 100 billion yen market level by 2012.
